William (Bill) LeAn, 68, of Humansville passed away suddenly on Friday, August 16th, 2013 at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar. A lifelong resident of Humansville he was one of 2 children born to Roland and Jo LeAn and was a 1962 graduate of Humansville High School.
Bill began his auctioneering career working with Everett Griffin of Fair Play. After a while Bill and Ronnie Bruce formed the Bruce and LeAn Auction Company and were partners for nearly 40 years auctioning many, many sales in the area. Bill began to specialize in working with Texas Longhorn Cattle and became quite well known in Longhorn circles as an auctioneer, showman, and judge traveling the United States to participate in Texas Longhorn events. He has been a recipient of many honors and awards through the Texas Longhorn Association.
Another love of Bill's was bluegrass music. He hosted a Bluegrass radio show with Larry Smith on KRLK Radio in Stockton for 10 years and was well known throughout the local bluegrass music scene as he played with various "bluegrassers".
Bill loved to ride motorcycles and he and Jo took many riding trips. Playing golf was a real passion of Bill's along with fishing and hunting. He enjoyed life and lived it!
Bill served as a member of the Humansville School Board for several years and drove a school bus for more than 10 years. He cared about the youth of the Humansville community and coached softball and baseball. He owned several businesses at various times including pawn shops in both Humansville and Bolivar.
Bill was a Christian and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Humansville. He was a 33rd degree Mason in the Bolivar Chapter and was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife Jo of the home; his father Roland LeAn and mother Beatrice Jo Hudy; brother Darrell LeAn and his wife Donna of Humansville; sons Kelley LeAn of Pittsburg, Missouri, Michael LeAn and his wife Lana of El Dorado Springs, Missouri; daughters Kimberly Flores and her husband Eddie of Springfield and Jo Dee Ryan of Springfield; step-daughters Lynn Nuckolls and her husband Robert of Oak Grove, Missouri and Cindi Creech and her husband Ronnie of Republic, Missouri; grandchildren Katie, Megan, Michael, Morgan, Joseph, Lane, Adam, Maya, Elena, Hank, Luke, Jared, Jessica, Jenna, Jacklyn, Alex; several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Murray Funeral Home, Humansville with Rev. Scott Killingsworth officiating. Musicians will be Roy, Betty Jo, Mark and Kendra Craft. Pallbearers are Ronnie Bruce, Billy Bruce, Mike Sprowls, Ronnie Creech, Eddie Flores, and Darrell LeAn, Jr. Burial will follow in the Humansville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 6-8 PM with a Masonic Service to be held at 6.
